Student Teacher Program
Many of our Intermediate and Senior students have now reached an age and level of technical skills where they are able to assist teachers with the junior classes. This gives the student an excellent opportunity to learn teaching skills by working with senior teachers.
Performance Opportunities
Over the years students have performed at the Commonwealth Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Deaflympics, Carols by Candlelight, Community Festivals, Shopping Centre displays, Fashion Parades and Television Commercials, in addition to the numerous Workshops & Theatre productions that The Jazz Centre presents.
The Jazz Centre holds a Mid Year Workshop at the end of second term with the end of year concert held at the Besen Centre, Burwood. Ballet Exams are in third term, and competitions run throughout June, July, August, September and Nationals in November.
Concert and Mid Year Workshop
There are two major performances each year, one being our mid year workshop and the other our end of year production. All students who attend regular classes are involved in both. The mid year workshop is a demonstration of students work held at the end of term 2, presented in a friendly relaxed atmosphere in front of family and friends.
The end of year production is held either at the end of November or beginning of December and is staged at the Besen Centre, Burwood, a professionally equipped theatre that seats 900 people. All students are required to attend two Saturday rehearsals prior to the event.
Bring A Friend Week
Students are encouraged to invite a friend to class whom they feel may be interested in joining the centre. This has become very popular with our students as classes are designed to incorporate and involve our guest with a lot of fun. Held in term one.
Open Days
It is our belief that both student and teacher work more effectively when they are not being observed therefore parents are allowed to observe classes on special designated days only. These are generally held on the last week of terms 1,2 and 3.
School Holiday Programs
The Jazz Centre and Victorian State Cheerleaders run a special Summer School holiday programs for student’s age 5 years and over covering Acrobatics, Cheerleading,, Hip Hop, Singing, Drama, Jazz and Lyrical.
Public Holidays
There are generally no classes held on public holidays, however sometimes classes may run as normal on Queens Birthday in June as this is the week before the AASCF Cheer & Dance competitions.
